About Recruitment

  • The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination twice a year to select officers for the Indian Armed Forces.
  • This esteemed exam enables candidates to join the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), and Officers Training Academy (OTA).
  • Successful candidates undergo intensive training at their respective academies.
  • After completing their training, candidates are commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force.
  • Candidates applying for this examination must be unmarried and should remain unmarried until they complete their training.

Salary

  • Salary and other benefits will be based on the rank and pay structure of the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force.

How to apply

  • A candidate must be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal.
  • Candidates are required to apply online only on the official website upsconline.nic.in.
  • It is essential for the candidate to register himself/herself once on the platform through One Time Registration (OTR).
  • OTR has to be registered once in a lifetime. If a candidate has already registered, they can directly proceed with the application.
  • If a candidate wants to make any changes to his/her OTR profile, it is allowed only once in their lifetime after the initial registration on the OTR platform.
  • Once registered, the candidate can log in and fill out the application form.
  • If a candidate wants to modify the application after submission, he/she can do so within 7 days after the closing date of the application, i.e., from 05.06.2024 to 11.06.2024.
  • Please note that candidates will not be allowed to withdraw their applications after submission.
  • Candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only), either by remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash, by using Visa/Master/Rupay Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment, or by using the internet banking facility of any bank.
  • Eligible candidates will be issued an e-Admit Card on the last working day of the week preceding the date of the examination.
  • The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website (http://upsc.gov.in) for downloading by candidates.

Selection Procedure

  • The selection process includes a written exam and an interview to assess intelligence and personality.
  • The written exam for the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy is 300 marks and lasts 6 hours. It includes questions on English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics.
  • The written exam for the Officers' Training Academy is 200 marks and lasts 4 hours. It includes questions on English and General Knowledge.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for an intelligence and personality test interview.
  • The interview has two stages: Stage-I and Stage-II.
  • Stage-I includes the Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT).
  • Stage-II includes the interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days.
